Our Banner Presentation on 27.06.2026

Banners have served as powerful symbols of identity, allegiance, and aspiration across human history — from the battle standards of ancient armies to the civic flags of medieval guilds, they communicate belonging and purpose at a glance. They were carried with pride and the loss of a banner or colour was considered a massive disgrace. Carried into processions, hung in halls, or planted on conquered ground, a banner declares who we are and what we stand for without a single spoken word.

In Freemasonry, banners hold particular ceremonial and symbolic weight. Each Lodge traditionally possesses its own banner bearing distinctive emblems, and its particular symbols. These banners are carried in formal processions and displayed during meetings, reinforcing the Order’s connection to ancient tradition and reminding the Lodge of its history.

The ATA banner we dedicate today is a great example of a banner which declares what ATA stands for. Beneath the name of the District we see the keystone, the symbol of the degree. Below that, in the central shield are the crescent moon and star of Turkey, the Bundesadler of Germany, and the lion of England together with the heavy maul and chisel, the working tools of the Mark Master.

The keystone and working tools are the symbols of the Mark Degree and remind us that objects or ideas which we consider valueless may in fact be the key if we look at them properly.

The star, crescent moon, and the red background of the banner signify the Turkish roots of many of the Brethren of ATA, the strong links to Turkey, and that they will soon work in the Turkish language. The Bundesadler reminds us that the Lodge is based in Germany, with many German Brethren and working within the District of Germany, while the Lion indicates the governance of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales and its Districts and Lodges Oversees. Thus in the one banner we see the three countries united and combined in the Mark Degree within ATA. Truly a statement of THIS is who we are and HERE is where we belong!
